Organic technology by BiOWiSH™ boosts tomato crop yields

Improves profitability for growers

January 23, 2012
For Immediate Release

CHICAGO, IL - An independent research study found tomato growers can significantly increase crop production using a novel organic technology named BiOWiSH™, providing growers with a sustainable means to improve yields and profitability.

Helena Research conducted the randomized four replicate farm trial at its facility in California. At the end of the trial, BiOWiSH™ increased fruit yields by an average of 19%. In addition, BiOWiSH™ treated crops exhibited increased Brix levels, which are tied to better tasting fruits and vegetables. BiOWiSH™ treated soil and plants also showed improved levels of key nutrients, including Nitrogen.

"We know we have the best technology for improving plant growth and taste," said BiOWiSH Technologies Senior Executive Vice President of Agronomy, Bill Diederich. "This independent study demonstrates BiOWiSH™ could potentially add millions of dollars per year to the tomato industry's bottom line. In addition to producing superior fruit, BiOWiSH™ also reduces the use of chemical fertilizers, which is better for people and the environment."

To evaluate fruit quality and yields, the study introduced BiOWiSH™-Crop into the fertilizer, irrigation, disease control and pest management program that is most commonly used by farmers in the region. This is referred to as the tomato growers or control program throughout the study.

Plots treated with BiOWiSH™-Crop showed increases in yields for red and green fruit. The use of BiOWiSH™ has the potential to increase profits by more than $300/acre and provided a return on investment of more than 500 percent .

BiOWiSH™-Crop is a certified organic fertilizer that helps increase micronutrient uptake in plants, improves plant vigor and stimulates microbial activity in the soil.
